Symbolism: Moths remind us to trust our transformational process and seek the light in dark places, opening our eyes to the ephemeral beauty and freedom on the other side of change.
Artist Statement:The Nature/Nurture Collection explores food as both sustenance and sacrament through fruits and the moths that love to eat them as much as we do.
A black hawthorn tree outside my studio was the initial spark of inspiration for this series. Hawthorn has been used for centuries by cultures across the globe as an antioxidant-rich heart tonic and digestive aid. In addition to the medicinal cardiovascular properties, it is also used for emotional heart healing, protective spells, and is said to be a gateway to other realms. As a visual symbol, the hawthorn berries are designed to awaken, expand, and invite you inside the home of your heart.
