Artist Statement:

Vanessa finds inspiration for painting in mythology, the natural world, and even politics. In this case, from ancient mythology, Icarus had a date with the sun. His hubris and intoxication of power drove him too close to the sun where the wax in his man-made wings melted and caused his demise. Another case of learning from history...or not.

About the Artist:

Vanessa began painting after a 40-year plus career in commercial interior design and then landscape design, authoring two books for Timber Press: Understanding Garden Design and The Professional Designer’s Guide to Garden Furnishings, a major life change, and moving to the Olympia area in 2023. The profound grief in the passing of her husband, Michael, continues to inspire poetry and painting with input from muses in the form of a former creative writing teacher, two beloved psychics, other artists, her daughter, and whispers from the Universe.
