For most of my life, my work has been a study of bodies, movement, and the kinetic impulses of the living world. My journey began in modern dance and evolved into a career as a massage therapist and yoga teacher—disciplines bound by deep, tactile listening. When my focus expanded outdoors to herbal medicine and sustainable foraging, I found those same somatic patterns echoed in the architecture of the wild. Today, I translate this dialogue into organic ceramic forms, navigating the raw, biomorphic rhythms of hand-building with clay and integrated organic materials. Through forms and tactile textures that suggest movement, I invite a visceral, somatic response—awakening a physical memory of the body in motion. Each piece transforms raw earth into an elegant, enduring form—held in stillness, yet resonant with subtle vitality.
Kristin Quaid Reed is an Olympia, Washington-based ceramic artist whose work explores the intersections of movement, anatomy, and organic form. Her tactile studio practice bridges a professional background in dance and bodywork with the raw rhythms of the Pacific Northwest landscape to create elegant contemporary vessels. Combining a modern design sensibility with high-fire stoneware, she utilizes a blend of wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques along with organic and foraged materials to bring grounded, kinetic ceramic art into the domestic space.
