My narrative pieces combine a dreamlike sensibility with stylized, naturalistic forms. This piece is part of an ongoing exploration of endurance and our relationship with technology and the natural world. Figures and mixed media are mainstays of my approach to clay sculpture. I hand-build with stoneware clay and add colored pencils or pastels after the firing. Sometimes there is a smoke-firing step before color is added. I work most often with the hare form, but as a result of experiences outside in recent years bears, weasels, and fish are starting to make appearances in the work, and I welcome this development.
