Artist Statement:

Human beings have been telling stories ever since we have existed. For this art piece I decided to tell some of my story through visual representation. Through the process of ‘going down the rabbit hole’ of my past I experienced witnessing my journey and holding my story with compassion. Being witnessed is a powerful form of healing. For hundreds of years people lived in tribes surrounded by their community. In modern day society in America there is a mental health epidemic, and this is partly due to people being dis-connected from their communities and themselves. Isolation and not being seen or heard is prevalent in our society. We can change the world one person at a time by witnessing each other and listening to each other’s stories. This is the path to healing and peace.

About the Artist:

Jeannie Bailly is a painter, ceramic artist, photographer, poet, singer songwriter, dancer, and teacher. She creates art that expresses her emotions and thoughts similar to the art genre “Expressionism”. She enjoys creating various textures and using bold colors in her artworks. Jeannie prefers to work in acrylic paint and usually works on large canvases layering different materials on the surface as a way to process thoughts and feelings. Using found objects and recycled materials is common in her work.

After an accident at the age of 17, Jeannie used the arts as a way to express and navigate intense emotions. Through the process of creating she discovered healing and transformation. Jeannie continues to seek a deeper understanding and wisdom of her internal landscape through the arts.
