About the Artist:
Fran Potasnik began her career as a public school art teacher. As the funds for art education dwindled she transitioned to early childhood education with emphasis on the arts. This led her to become influenced by children’s book illustrators. Her work has been inspired by the simple shapes and bold colors in the paper cuts of Lois Ehlertand Eric Carle as well as mixed media artist Eliza Klevin and Ezra Jack Keats.
Nature’s beauty and timeless cycles captive her interest and is often reflected in her work. In an effort to minimize her carbon footprint, Fran has chosen to reuse existing materials. The deconstruction and reconstruction of aluminum beverage cans present endless opportunities to incorporate their color, pattern and texture in each of her pieces.
