Artist Statement:

A photograph of Bruce Lee from the 1970s, reimagined through a digital composition by Peter Lee in 2015.

Bruce has been a personal hero. I first admired him in films, but it was his philosophy, discipline, and humanity that left the deepest impression. As a mixed Asian child, I rarely saw Asian men represented with dignity, strength, or complexity. Bruce shattered those limitations. He commanded the screen with power, grace, and wisdom. He became a guiding light, a sun whose influence continues to radiate across generations.

This vintage religious frame sparked the motivation to paint Bruce Lee, elevating him as a figure of personal reverence. A tribute and experiment, allowing me to explore painting acrylic over gold leaf while examining the ways we create modern icons and sources of inspiration.

"Today the rain is going on strong, but tomorrow, baby, the sun is going to come out again."-Bruce Lee.
