"A Mischief" by Darcy Goedecke

Artist Statement:
I grew up playing in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, where I befriended animals, made dandelion flower crowns, and collected trinkets I found in nature. My artwork is a reflection of the magical worlds I found as a child and the wonder I still feel for the animals and plants on our planet.
This particular piece is a celebration of one of the less-loved creatures: Rats. I like to pair “creepy” animals with flowers to make them more approachable, even cute. I hope to create more compassion and appreciation for these important parts of our ecosystem.
About the Artist:
Darcy Goedecke grew up in Edmonds, Washington, playing among her families garden and trees and befriending any animal she came across.
The daughter of an artist and carpenter, she has always loved to create art, take photos, write, and make anything with her hands.
She moved to Olympia in 2005 to attend The Evergreen State College for photography but fell in love with painting.
Darcy left her day job in 2015 to become a full-time artist, participating in gallery exhibits, craft fairs, and selling her art across the country.
In 2019 her Mother Earth painting was the Olympia Artswalk cover and several of her paintings adorn local traffic boxes.
Darcy currently lives in Olympia where she is building her dream garden and is raising her 4-year-old daughter with her partner and pets.
She is deeply inspired by animals and flowers and hopes to capture the magic she sees in nature.
