The focus of our work is to "listen" to how various pieces of wood- scraps, aged, damaged or milled seek to reveal a unique beauty. Our goal is to be environmentally responsible as we work with wood, helping it to reveal both a mystery and a beauty that touches the senses, ignites the imagination, and pleases the soul.
Retiring from 30 years as a university professor Cindy, at the age of 72, and her business partner, Patty Mitchell, 78, began their "woman's owned" wood working business Whispering Wood Designs in the fall of 2024. As a young adult, Cindy worked in a saw mill and for 16 years lived on and maintained a 42ft Alaskan Yellow Cedar, troller with Honduras Mahogany trim. These experiences taught her a great deal about woodworking and set the course for a retirement focused on wood art and creativity.
