I believe art can be a conduit for healing inner turmoil. The landscapes I create emerged during a time when painting helped guide me out of a long creative lull. For months, I felt as though I was forcing my work rather than allowing it to evolve naturally. Eventually, inspiration came through a simple realization: let the paint move as it wishes, much like nature itself.
I had been fighting the watercolor instead of working with it. This painting became an exercise in surrendering control and trusting the process. Watercolor finds its own path, flowing where it needs to go. The piece developed slowly—hours spent quite literally watching paint dry, returning again and again to add pigment or water at just the right moment.
In the end, the work became an ode to the many landscapes I have traveled through and the places I have called home.
Michelle Boucher is a self-taught artist specializing in watercolor pet portraits, wildlife, and landscapes. Her work is inspired by a deep appreciation for the natural world and the quiet, meaningful relationships people share with animals and the environment around them. Through delicate layers of watercolor, she seeks to capture not only the likeness of her subjects but also the spirit and presence that make them unique.
For Michelle, art is a way to honor the beauty and interconnectedness of life. Each painting reflects her personal reverence for nature and serves as an invitation for viewers to pause, look more closely, and reconnect with the living world. Her work celebrates the idea that humans are not separate from nature, but part of the same intricate and delicate whole.
