Artist Statement:

This piece lives in that strange place where something is ending, but not quite gone, and something else hasn’t fully arrived yet.

The skull holds that tension. It feels active, as if something inside it is still working, still changing. The light doesn’t behave like normal light, it feels internal, almost like heat, pushing outward and reshaping what we’re looking at.

There’s a kind of violence to transformation that doesn’t always look violent on the surface. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s just the slow realization that parts of you were never really yours to begin with, and letting them go isn’t clean or comfortable.

This painting sits with that process. Not as an ending, but as a moment of release, where something old is being burned off so something more honest can take its place.
