Artist Statement:

I work primarily in acrylics on canvas, building detailed, realistic paintings layer by careful layer. My work is deeply influenced by my study of Ancient Greek and Roman Art History and time spent abroad in Italy and Greece.

For me, painting is how I belong to a place. Of course you can photograph somewhere beautiful, but when you paint it, you understand it in a way you never could before. I include small, deliberate details that reward the viewers who linger just a little longer.
These paintings are acts of memory. I paint to keep the beautiful, fleeting things of this world close to me always. This work is an extension of myself, the places I have studied, where I've wandered, and made memories.

About the Artist:

Amira El-Sokkary is a self-taught acrylic painter based in Olympia and Seattle, Washington, working under Art and Amira. Raised in a family of artists, including her mother, equine encaustic artist Gabrielle England, and her late grandmother, founder of Olympia Paint & Art Supply, El-Sokkary grew up immersed in artistic tradition. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The Evergreen State College, with a minor in Ancient Greek and Roman Art History. Study abroad in Greece and Italy deepened her fascination with European light, texture, and daily life, themes that now anchor her detailed, observational style. Her work explores place, memory, and belonging through quiet, architecturally rich scenes. El-Sokkary has exhibited throughout the South Sound and Seattle, and since 2024 has led more than twenty paint-and-sip classes across the Pacific Northwest.
