I love working with soft pastels as I feel like I have more control over the medium, especially with blending colors in the pieces with my fingers. While it's a bit messy, there's just something more personal between me and my work in those moments. Much like when I played violin back in high school, which partly inspired this piece. Picturing the musician becoming one with both his instrument and the setting around him.
Allan Krummenacker has been drawing with pencil, charcoal, and pastel since his teens. A fairly new transplant to Washington, he continues to work mainly with charcoal and soft pastel. He has spent the last 7 years mostly focusing on book covers for both his own paranormal thriller books, as well as and his wife's vampire detective novels.
