Carrying the Storm
I carried them both through the storm.
One along for the ride,
the other trying to claw its way
out of my arms.
From a distance
it probably looked easy.
It never occurred to me
to put them down.

There is nothing more natural, and nothing more destabilizing, than motherhood. In Carrying the Storm, that tension appears as a fragile balance between calm and chaos, compassion and resistance, echoing the equinox itself.
Ravenna Beck is a mixed media artist based in Olympia, Washington. Her work uses texture, color, and layered materials to explore emotional experience through recurring images of figures, landscapes, and humble objects.
