Artist Statement:
My work explores the connection between nature, movement, and emotion through layered abstraction. Inspired by coastal landscapes, tropical forms, shifting light, and organic textures, I use bold color, intuitive mark-making, and transparent layers to create atmospheric paintings that feel immersive rather than literal.
I am drawn to the balance between structure and spontaneity — allowing drips, scratches, gestural lines, and layered forms to emerge organically throughout the spainting process. Saturated blues, glowing oranges, and lush greens are used to evoke energy, depth, and a sense of place.
While abstract, my paintings often suggest fragments of water, foliage, and landscape, inviting viewers to form their own emotional connection and interpretation.
About the Artist:
Debbie Tracey is an abstract artist based in Washington State whose work is inspired by coastal landscapes, tropical forms, and the emotional energy of nature. Through layered textures, intuitive mark-making, and vibrant color palettes, she creates atmospheric paintings that balance abstraction with hints of landscape and botanical imagery.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries and juried exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, Arizona, Hawaii and is held in private collections across the United States. Debbie is a member of Rectangle Gallery, the Society of Washington Artists, and Puget Sound Group Northwest.
