Artist Statement:

For the theme of 'Sol', I created a piece that represents the eons of life cycles created by the sun leaving layers and patterns in the Earth. Growth to death within the cycles of the sun is represented by mixed media flower forms, reaching for the light. Materials on the inside of the frame are made to capture the shifting rays of light and create their own patterns and colors that add to the piece.

About the Artist:

Adeena is an artist, floral designer, and art teacher in the Olympia area for over 25 years. She earned her BFA in painting in Michigan and a Masters in Teaching from The Evergreen State College.  For the past 3 years she also worked as a production and set designer for regional films, learning more about creating effects and play of light. Never happy to settle in one medium for long, she is constantly exploring ideas with mixed media and repurposed materials with all roads leading to themes of the patterns and cycles of flora and fauna analogous to the human experience.  She presently resides with her son and cats in SE Olympia tending to her garden and her floral design business, Floradeena.
