The Emanations Collection explores seasons and nostalgia using golden moths and leaves, focusing on the qualities of late afternoon light in the trees surrounding my home.
Symbolism: Moths remind us to trust our transformational process and seek the light in dark places, opening our eyes to the ephemeral beauty and freedom on the other side of change. Leaves remind us to notice the impermanent, cyclic nature of reality.
This poem is based on the titles of the ten paintings in this collection:
The amber alchemy
of afternoon,
latest summer,
latest shimmer
when gossamer lashes
half-open, half-closed
entanglements gathered
and morning, transposed
and memories woven, threads unenclosed,
while time glimmers
outside…
Effulgent, sunlit
emanations
always ancient,
always emerging,
both new and familiar
the wheel’s resurrection,
its essence, ethereal-
a curved recollection
transmuting daylight’s
dazzling reflection
through its luminous
labyrinth…
Green to gold,
blue to blush
the gilded splendor
of autumn’s rush
then all the glow
of gloaming’s hush
