I’ve known I wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember. Whenever I’m asked why I make art, my answer has always been simple: it feels right. The endless possibilities of visual art excite me, and creativity is how I make sense of my experiences and surroundings. Art is how I feel confident in my existence. I paint, draw, and explore new mediums and concepts as often as I can. It brings me joy, creates community, and serves as an essential tool for understanding myself. My art is a pursuit of self, of the world around me, and most of all, of ideas. How lucky I am to be able to discover myself through art.
My name is Ryan Cunningham and I am a local artist. I recently graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May of 2025 with my BFA. I have worked a lot in the Pacific Northwest creating murals and since graduating I have been making as much art as possible. I am heavily invested in my own career as an artist as well as providing art for the community. Creativity has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I am always making new art and working on something. At all times I am thinking “what can I make out of this?” or “I need to translate this idea visually!”
