Artist Statement:

Inspired by a tearing the veil moment I had watching the sunset. Watching the moon, suddenly there were these patterns appearing in the moon’s glow. There was every color of light. At first I thought my contacts had something in them, so I took them out and put them back in. Nope. The verses came to mind in the Bible about God setting lights in the sky to mark the time and seasons and a great light to govern the day and another for night. Then I blinked, and it returned to normal. I’ve tried to capture that moment. Interactive. You can reach out and touch the night sky to change it. The moon scene will govern the winter as it hangs, and once it reaches 77 degrees the painting will fully emerge from winter hibernation, and the sunny pink skies will govern the summer. Thus “Governors” you see.

About the Artist:

Susan Clark was born in Anchorage, AK but was raised mostly in western WA. She could never escape the beauty of the pines, so she settled deeply amid the green and moss to let it influence her work. After earning a BA of Fine Arts/Illustration from Seattle Pacific University, she began illustrating several songbook projects in both Lebanon and Syria during her time spent abroad after graduation. Art continued to be part of her everyday life when she fell into teaching and then as she owned and operated as the solo artist for Suno Henna, a temporary body art business out of Chehalis, WA. In 2023 she pivoted back to fine arts. She never lost her love for stories, holding space, participating and telling them, with that illustration background, of course. With each piece she creates, she hopes you see a part of the story unfolding in your life.
