In the act of making things (art, tools, shelter) our human condition finds voice and speaks to the material world. While we live surrounded by war, inequalities, pandemics, social unrest, the advancements in new technologies provide a great opportunity for investigation and inquiry. Simultaneously one can aspire to make sense of realities within a softer, more comfortable place. Recognizing our innate human need for creation, tactile sensory experiences, and the experience of ephemeral beauty, my work aims to provide the viewer with an emotive response, an aesthetic experience, and a shift in perspective. Often working with mundane materials and transforming them from “pervasive to precious” is an ongoing exploration. The work is a commitment to a working process of thinking. After a research and development phase, the pieces are fabricated by hand with the aid of robotic machinery. Some have described the objects as complex geometries of uncommon beauty and interest.
Marc Bailly is an American artist who currently resides and works in Seattle. He concentrates on creating intricately detailed surfaces, objects, and experiential installations. His work explores creating as an act of connection, harmony, and resolution of opposing forces. Taking a mundane material like plastic from “pervasive to precious” is an ongoing exploration in his work. Often rooted in the material world but thinking of loftier places the objects created focus on material innovations, the aesthetics of affect, and the emotional impact of beautiful objects.
