I love a good story. It’s what I strive to capture in my art—whether it’s a quiet conversation unfolding between grapes and a wine glass, or the wistful nostalgia reflected in the eyes of a portrait.
Linda Bates is a self-taught artist raised in Portland, Oregon, whose love of drawing emerged early in childhood. At the age of seven, her father introduced her to oil paints—an experience that shaped her artistic journey and established oil as her primary medium throughout her life.
She developed her mural skills as an artist-in-residence at Pendy’s, a Portland restaurant, and later contributed to mural projects at Manucha Retreat and Conference Center in Oregon, the Valley Athletic Club in Washington, and in numerous private homes.
As a young woman, Linda moved to Crested Butte, Colorado, where she spent a decade immersed in the vibrant mountain community. During those years, she operated a candy store, taught piano, and continued to paint whenever she could.
Returning to the Pacific Northwest in 1996 to be closer to family, she established a successful piano studio and devoted many years to music education. Now in semi-retirement, Linda has returned to her first love—painting—eager to explore her true artistic voice through representational art.
