I am an artist and mathematician who lives at the base of the Puget Sound in Washington. I have been drawing since I was seven, batiking for thirty years and working gourds since 2020. I believe nature is where God and math and beauty meet and so it is the natural world that inspires me and colors my canvas and my dreams.
Lara Raven Wheeler has been working in batik for thirty years. Batik is the process of patterning fabric with dye using wax as a resist. It has been used for centuries in Indonesia, and batik fabric is commonly seen in clothing and tapestries. Instead of patterns, Lara creates landscapes and portraits using the same method of resist on fabric.
