Artist Statement:

"This portrait captures a quiet, reflective moment — the space where someone feels both present and slightly distant, like fading light on a cloudy Northwest day.

Painted in a soft, limited palette, it focuses on the mood of the face rather than precise detail, inviting viewers to feel rather than analyze.

The work reflects my interest in stillness, inner landscape, and the gentle shifts that happen inside us. Through light and subtle tonal transitions, the painting suggests openness, vulnerability, and the simple honesty of being human."

About the Artist:

Alla V is a visual artist working primarily in oil painting, whose practice centers on the exploration of inner states, memory, and the subtle emotional landscapes of womanhood. Drawing inspiration from the expressive gravity of Käthe Kollwitz and the tonal softness of Eugène Carrière, she creates atmospheric figurative works that invite quiet reflection rather than direct interpretation.

With over a decade of painting experience, Alla’s approach is rooted in traditional methodology while remaining open to experimental techniques. Her work is informed by long-term study of meditation and embodied awareness, which translates into a focus on presence, gesture, and the transitional spaces between clarity and abstraction.

In addition to painting, she works with 35mm film photography, using it as a parallel practice to study light, narrative, and the emotional charge of fleeting moments. Alla currently lives and works in Olympia, Washington."
