Artist Statement:
Most of what I photograph is mundane—places people pass without a second thought. Art doesn't depend on location for inspiration.
Through film and instinct, I focus on reimagining what an image can look like outside of tradition and convention. I am drawn to the moment someone experiences a photograph and questions both how and what they are seeing. Ultimately, my goal is to create memorable images that linger with people long after they’ve walked away.
About the Artist:
Yänna Graves is a Pacific Northwest-based multidisciplinary artist who works with analogue photography. Her photographs are created without digital manipulation, often bending reality into question. Her approach welcomes imperfections and the unpredictability of the film process— entrusting experimentation and atmosphere to sculpt an image, and the viewer to interpret it. Rather than simply capturing a record of a place, Graves is interested in subverting surroundings and familiarity through photography.
