Artist Statement:
This painting is about longing for vastness. Summer always gives me a sense of more: more experiences, more adventure, more possibility. Then fall arrives, and there is a little sadness in the reprieve from that pace. It becomes a time to take inventory of my life, to consider what I will carry into the next season and what it’s time to let go of.
That introspection can feel lonely. I can get lost in fantasy, in longing for what might be beyond the life I am living now. There is melancholy in that reflection, and sometimes real grief in saying goodbye. But there is also something beautiful about the possibility of dreaming beyond the present and imagining what might still be ahead.

About the Artist:
Ravenna Beck is an Olympia, Washington–based artist working primarily in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. Her contemporary impressionistic and semi-abstract work explores the emotional undercurrents of everyday life through expressive color, layered surfaces, and symbolic imagery. She has exhibited throughout the Pacific Northwest and is an Olympia ArtSpace Alliance grant recipient. In addition to her studio practice, Beck is a meditation teacher, recovery advocate, government bureaucrat, and parent.
