Artist Statement:
Fall is my favorite season to travel and photograph. Beyond the respite from summer heat and crowds, the cooler weather and warmer light create lovely atmospheric color. In October 2022, I traveled to Scotland to photograph in Edinburgh, Stirling and a few remote wilderness areas. Loch Chon is a freshwater loch in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. In fall, the warm colors of native oaks, birches and other broadleaf species on its banks contrast beautifully with the cooler shades of fir and spruce.
About the Artist:
Lou MacMillan explores nature, history, architecture and culture through photography. Encouraged by his artist mother to draw and paint, Lou later found photography more compelling. He now “paints with a camera” on his international travels, which have included Spain, Scotland, Antarctica, Italy, France and Ireland. He looks forward to visiting Prague, Czech Republic, this October.
Lou has exhibited in Olympia, Portland, New York and Nebraska. He was artist-in-residence at the Mineral School in August 2017. His images and self-published coffee table book, "Wilderness of Ice: The Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands", were featured by the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition, an environmental nonprofit in Washington, D.C."
