Symbolism: The moon is associated with the unconscious, feminine principle, dreams, cyclic wisdom, balance, emotions, and the water element. The Greek word for moon, mene, forms the basis for the word menstruation, as the female menstrual cycle follows that of the moon, with approximately 13 cycles per year. The moon invites us to explore the unknown and our creative/emotional depths. It is associated with the ancient goddesses Ishtar in Babylon, Isis in Egypt, and Artemis in Greece. The full moon is a symbol of fertility and abundance. Because it moves in a continuous, changeless cycle, the moon is a significant symbol of balance and rebirth.
