My work examines these social issues through a critical and personal lens. The political is personal; the personal is universal. These issues extend beyond me to community.

This mix of political/personal can be found in contemporary feelings of isolation, an increasingly common phenomenon. Though more connected than ever by online means, we remain alone (together). In my recent series of paintings Shadow Work, I examine what it means to coexist alone/together. Shadow Work consists of mixed media drawings, and paintings in acrylic, oil, and encaustic. The layered compositions explore identity and contemporary life through literal and implied figures, rhythmic patterns, and the psychological interplay of shadow and form.

About the Artist:

Yvonne Kunz was born in Great Falls, Montana, but moved frequently as a military child.
