Like riparian zones, zones between these two places are fragile lines that make me think. The fragile lines also exist throughout our days as too many of us walk around on this planet together. I find inspiration in those fragile lines in both our physical world, our social structure and the challenges we face as we universally question the way we treat each other and our home (earth).

The process in all these remains true to my encaustic practice of layering, adding and subtracting color, medium, texture and images while creating mood and a sense of place.

About the Artist:

Never without a sketchbook and mark making tool, Teri Bevelacqua has maintained life as an Artist for over 50 decades now. Working in encaustic, acrylic, 2D and 3D, all her work is rooted in elements of drawing and collage. Trained as a painter and sculptor at Northern Illinois University, Teri’s practice ranges from: quick sketches of musicians playing, large installation art for the desert, paintings of all sizes and in both mediums, printmaking and much collaging. The COVID years gave her a moment for a deep dive into collage, no limitations, which resulted in a large body of spontaneous collage work. Collage has also become a backbone of her practice as she works through composition and story with quick collages upon entering the studio for art making. Themes and subjects of Bevelacqua’s work are generally a flavor of Americana that finds its inspiration in those fragile lines in both our physical world, our social structure and the challenges we face as we universally question the way we treat each other and our home (earth). The images Teri uses in the art come from her drawing practice and interesting things she has photographed . You may be challenged by the content of the message, but appreciate the colors, lines, style, depths, composition, dark humor and possibly a thought. There are lots of layers, literally and metaphorically.

Follow on Instagram
