Through her practice, Lara uses the ancient wax-resist method of batik—layering molten wax and dyes on cotton—to create richly colored landscapes, portraits, and narrative works that emphasize light, shadow, and emotional resonance. Drawing on photographs she’s taken of her own explorations, Lara meticulously plans each piece before waxing and dying layer after layer, finally allowing the image to reveal itself as wax is removed and colors emerge. Her work bridges traditional craft and contemporary artistic expression, bringing the textural depth and luminosity of batiked fabric into fine art contexts. Lara’s fine art prints and original textile works reflect a profound connection to material and place, rooted in both personal experience and an appreciation for the long history of batik as an art form.

Artist Website

Follow on Instagram

11 x 14 inches
Ink & Watercolor on Fluid Hot Press & metallic mineral pigments
$385

Contact Katie to purchase

Artist Statement:

I love capturing movement & grace – a moment in time just before it becomes something new. Working with illuminated stained glass mosaics allows me to capture and manipulate brilliance, turning glass into a canvas of living color. For this exhibition, my work focuses on the concept of radiance and the way warmth influences texture and depth. By combining intricate glasswork with deliberate illumination, I aim to evoke the feeling of a sun-drenched landscape or the quiet beauty of a blooming form. I want viewers to experience a visceral connection to the energy of light, feeling the literal and symbolic warmth radiating from within the piece.

About the Artist:

Based in Olympia, Washington, Kari Tally is an artist who specializes in illuminated stained glass mosaics. It is created mostly with wet on wet watercolor techniques and occasionally includes fine details done in colored pencil, ink, and/or gold foil. Though my rendering style and mediums are more contemporary, my compositions are heavily inspired by traditional layouts found in the 1800s scientific illustrations I spent my childhood obsessing over. As I branched out from art school my style expanded to include the spatial awareness I learned while illustrating patents and the ability to create a narrative I learned while illustrating beverage labels. My focus stylistically has recently been on bringing together the neo-traditional tattoo style that I have always loved and the realistic style I have always painted in. My most recent compositions have begun to include more modern techniques such as heavy black outlines and a mix of realistic and graphic styles. Regardless of the medium in which I am working, my mission has always been to celebrate the beauty of nature, especially in light of the growing impact of human devastation on the natural world.

About the Artist:

Cass Graybeal Brown is a full time tattoo artist and painter currently based in Tacoma, WA. Her passion for art started young, fostered by a long line of strong female artists. Her mother and grandmother’s obsession with gardening was essential in the creation of her style which is focused on the natural world. Completing a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Scientific Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2017. After graduating she was hired at Northern Virginia Graphics, a small patent illustration firm in the DC metro area. She worked there for 4 years while also carrying on a freelance illustration business before moving to the Pacific Northwest with her military husband and two pitbulls where she fell in love with the tattoo industry and began an apprenticeship under Danny Schreiber at the Copper Wolf Tattoo and Fine Art Gallery. Her love of nature art translated into a specialty in floral tattoos in a variety of styles. She is now in her 3rd year of full-time tattooing and her first year as a full member of the Proctor Art Gallery in Tacoma.

Visit grayillu.com

Follow on Instagram
